The HealthCare.gov website was supposed to make choosing a health insurance plan easier. Right. Don’t forget, it is a government project.
So, if you are thoroughly confused by it, we’ll try to walk your through a more rational process.
Step 1. How are healthy are you and anyone else who will be on the plan?
This is the most important question. And we know it is a guess. You have to guess how healthy you (and anyone else on the plan) will be in the next year. Yes, that is an idiotic question that you cannot possibly answer. That’s the way health insurance works.
So, in reality, you look at the past year and make a guess.
Aside from accidents, which can happen to anyone at any time, here’s what you want to consider:
- Your past health history. If you’ve been sick a lot in the past, you probably will be in the future. Likewise, if you didn’t go to the doctor last year except for checkups and make a flu once; you’ll probably continue to be healthy.
